Material Engineer / Scientist (m/f) LOCATION: Jena, Germany
REPORTS TO: R&D Manager GmbH
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The successful candidate will be responsible for material development for our next generation developments of Class III cardiovascular devices. The primary focus will be the material development for novel thermoplastic material and secondary will be to support all department in material related questions from coatings to packaging. The position will be responsible for material specification and control from R&D into production, including the establishment of new control routines for incoming goods as well as in process control since some of the raw material require in-house preparation. The project work will be done in close collaboration with Manufacturing at the Company’s sites in Germany, Turkey and Sweden. Travelling between the sites will be required but will be project dependent.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Together with R&D the position as Material Engineer / Scientist would be responsible for:
• Acting as material specialist in ongoing R&D projects
• Working with material development programs including preclinical evaluation
• Generate qualification plans for new grades of polymer material as well as metals
• Responsible for maintaining and establish documentation for all used materials
• Coordinating and participating in the drafting of procedures, protocols and reports
• Providing regular updates to R&D management, as needed, on: Progress in the above areas (updated budgets, timetables, and other)
REQUIREMENTS:
• Minimal M.Sc. required within the field Material science / Biomaterials / Chemistry
• Minimum of 4 years of aggregate experience working in the medical device industries with practical material development
• Knowledge of and experience with regulations and guidelines pertaining to the medical device industry, including ISO 13485, CFR 820 and Medical Device Directive
• Experience of the following areas are plus:
– Polyurethane for Medical Device
– Nitinol experience
– Production methods including polymer and Nitinol
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as leadership
• Ability to effectively work in a fast-paced, multicultural environment
• Hands-on working style
• Excellent spoken and written English a must
